Overall Learning Outcome
Upon completion of this activity, nurses will demonstrate increased knowledge regarding
culturally competent assessment, treatment, and nursing management of dementia among Black
older adults.
Learning Objectives
Following completion of this activity, the learner will be able to:
1. Describe dementia and its major causes.
2. Identify disparities affecting dementia diagnosis in the Black community.
3. Discuss current treatment options for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.
4. Apply culturally responsive nursing interventions that improve outcomes for Black older
adults and their caregivers.
After completing the activity, at least 80% of participants will demonstrate increased knowledge of dementia disparities and culturally responsive nursing interventions experienced by the Black community by correctly answering 7 out of 10 questions on the post-assessment.
Learning objectives
By the end of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Differentiate dementia from normal aging, delirium, and depression.
- Identify at least three factors contributing to dementia disparities in Black communities.
- Select at least three culturally responsive nursing interventions for a Black patient with suspected or diagnosed dementia.
- Describe the nurse’s role in supporting treatment, safety, dignity, and family caregivers.

To receive your certificate of completion, you must read the activity, complete the post-test, answer 6 out of ten questions, and agree to the attestation. You must also complete and submit the evaluation at the conclusion of the activity.
